Stop Silencing the Global South – International Panel

October 14, 2021 @ 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm

Global Justice Now – In partnership with Stirling Climate Festival : “Stop Silencing the Global South”

People in the global south are facing a myriad of obstacles to get to the UK’s UN Climate Talks and to get their voices heard. The negotiations are meant to be a place where the international community, representatives of civil society both from the global south and north come together to agree a plan to tackle the climate crisis. But the UK government’s inaction is making it hard for many to get here.

Azul Schvartzman a young climate activist with Unite For Climate Action from Argentina will be sharing the story of her struggle and the struggles of South American activists and grass roots youth groups who are trying to get to the Climate Talks but keep hitting a brick wall. Funding, language barriers and visa requirements are all hard to get past and now the promised vaccines are not even arriving in time for delegates from the global south to get them before the climate talks. When the eyes of the world are on Glasgow and people all over the world are trying to attend, Azul’s journey demonstrates not only the injustice of our government’s attitude to hosting the climate talks but how important it is for those who can get to the talks to do so and ensure our voices get heard. Azul will be joined by Cameron Joshi from Global Justice Now’s youth network for discussion and questions.
